Remembering Fallen Heroes

Fallen Heroes in Jacksonville

Memorial Day is a very important time to remember those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we hold dear. As a military town, many people in Jacksonville are intimately aware of the impact that fallen heroes have had on our lives. At Harrell and Harrell, we encourage you to not only reflect on the freedoms we enjoy and the price that was paid to secure them, but also to participate in a Memorial Day observance ceremony or community event.

Jacksonville National Cemetery

Each year, the Jacksonville National Cemetery participates in the National Cemetery Administration’s Memorial Day observance with flag and wreath placement on the graves of those who sacrificed their lives in military service for the freedom of others. This is always a very moving event and helps remind us of how many local heroes have laid down their lives for us.

There will be a flag placement ceremony at the cemetery on Thursday, May 23, 2019 starting at 3 p.m. and a Memorial Day Wreath Laying Ceremony, which will be held on Saturday, May, 25, 2019 at 10 a.m.

City of Jacksonville Memorial Day Service

This annual ceremony is held at the Duval County Veterans Memorial Wall, which is located between the TIAA Bank Field and the Baseball Grounds. Attendees are encouraged to arrive at 8 a.m. for the pre-ceremony, which will feature music by Navy Band Southeast and Jacksonville Children’s Chorus. The ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m., and parking is free.

Green Cove Springs Memorial Day Riverfest

Another community event you can participate in this year is the Green Cove Springs Memorial Day Riverfest. Our firm is proud to sponsor the fireworks display at this great event. The opening ceremony of the Riverfest will include a Presentation of Colors, National Anthem, Aerial Flyover and a Veterans Recognition. This will be held at the Spring Park Gazebo.

This Memorial Day, don’t let the holiday be just another day off work. There are many benefits that we enjoy thanks to the sacrifice of others. It is important for us to remember the cost of those freedoms and the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for them.
