DON BLACK

Retired Partner

Don was born in Cleveland, Ohio, December 12, 1946. He graduated with his B.A. from Wooster College in 1969. Don received his Masters from the University of Florida in 1973 and his J.D. from Case Western Reserve University in 1976. From 1976 to 1987, he served as the Assistant Director of Law and Lead Trial Counsel for the City of Cleveland, Ohio, where he handled a variety of complex commercial and tort litigation. From 1987 — 1990 he was an associate with the insurance defense firm McNeal, Schick, Archibald & Biro in Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. Black is Board Certified in Civil Trial Law with the Florida Bar Association and is active in the Association of Trial Lawyers of America and the Florida Justice Association.

Don has litigated hundreds of cases to verdict in Florida and Ohio and successfully prosecuted appeals to Florida’s First District Court of Appeals and Florida Supreme Court; Ohio appellate and Supreme Courts; the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court resulting in the off cited decision “cert improvidently granted”.

He is married to Barbara Black, a former school teacher, and has two children, David and Laura. David is also an attorney with Harrell & Harrell, P.A. As a founder and 23 years of dedicated hard work with Harrell & Harrell P.A., Don retired from the firm in 2018.  He will enjoy spending more time with his family, traveling and spoiling his grandchildren.
